Day 30: I Have Seen the Lord

On 31 March 2020, YEF Singapore members meditated on John 20:11-18.

Mary  Magdalene was the first to see the resurrected Christ. However, she was caught in sorrows and did not recognise Jesus.

This following is a member’s reflection:

We see Mary’s heart for Jesus where she had a lot of thanksgiving and love for Him. She was the first to reach the tomb and to see the resurrection of Jesus. If we are numb to the love of Jesus, we would be in danger. We would grow to be hardened in heart and to
lose sight of God.

Jesus saw us drowning in our sins. He exchanged His life for ours. And we nailed Jesus on the cross with our sins – our cowardice, our false
testimony, betrayal etc. Many sins that we did so. Jesus called out for the forgiveness of His enemies (Luke 23:34) even when they did not deserve it. When we look at our sins, we must see the love of God that overcame all of this. Each of us has the image of God in us but also our own sins. Mary had a true heart for Jesus but she was taken by her own sorrow that she could not see Jesus.

We too must not be taken by our own feelings and thoughts and fail to see God. We should not ignore our feelings and thoughts but to acknowledge that while we feel so, we can choose to put God first and submit ourselves to God.

I think that Mary had a very precious heart where she cried and was genuinely sorrowful that the Lord was missing. There are times where we cannot wallow in our own thoughts and feelings but to walk firmly towards God. To have faith and trust in Him so that we will not lose sight of God and we can hear and answer Him when He calls us. Amen.
