Day 7: The Spirit of Truth

On 4th March 2020, the 7th day of Lent, YEF members meditate upon John 14:15~20.

15 “If you love me, keep my commands.

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever-

17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.

20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

One member shared that “I truly saw how Jesus was trying to comfort the disciples. Jesus is going to face the Cross, it is death and separation. The greatest comfort that one can offer to ones who are facing separation is assuring them that they will meet again. I have experienced the death of a family member, I know the kind of pain and despair that is inside a person. The greatest wish and comfort that could be offered would be if I could see the person again. Jesus told His disciples that they are not alone, they will not be left as orphans. He asked Father for the Holy Spirit who will be in them forever. This is not only the Word given to disciples, but to us as well. Jesus said that He will live, and we will live together with Him. Death is the greatest power in this World that no one could overcome. Separation by death is the most heart-breaking. But Jesus assured us that there is no separation, the Holy Spirit will be with us eternally, and there is resurrection after death. This is the greatest comfort that Jesus was able to offer to the disciples and to us, turning despair and sorrow into hope and joy.”.
