The following is the reflection and meditation of a member for message on 26th March 2020.
Today we covered John 19:23-27. In Matthew 27:38, we also see that the soldiers took what Jesus had. They truly were ruthless and heartless. They only cared for their own selves. This is the selfishness of man. Much as we do not admit, we are selfish in nature. We are arrogant too. These are our sins that we try to hide and forget. But God always reminds us that in each of us, these are our sins. We need to pray for these sins daily because without prayer, we will forget the grace we received and we will go back to square one in dealing with our sins.
I know that deep in me, I am selfish and arrogant. On the outside, I can cover up and tell myself I am good. But I know that truly I have selfish desires and I am proud. Through daily prayer, we can ask God to keep sanctifying us. We do not want to go back to square one each time we go before God. We want to keep growing and moving forward, not backwards. Even if we do move backwards, it should not be back to our original state but somewhere better than before.
Truly this is the life of Jesus in giving up everything He has. From all physical possessions to his own life, nothing he withheld from God. This is how much He is willing to give up for us out of His love for us. Jesus loves us and He is obedient to God. I am not sure why but to see Jesus give up even His own clothes, it touched me very deeply today. He was bare and yet, He never faltered. I suppose it is because clothes can cover us and maybe give us some dignity but now that whatever Jesus has, He surrendered it to God. This is true obedience. That is not to say God mistreats us or intentionally causes us to suffer. But this true obedience and humility before God, can then bring about a greater world and rewards. In Jesus, we now have salvation because of the cross He bore for us.
