Reflection from member:
Today we covered John 18:28-40. As covered by the previous sermon, we revisited this part again to understand it better. The truth is that only true strength comes from God. If we are like Peter who relied on his own strength, courage, and is not spiritually alert to watch out for satan’s attacks, then he will fall in the trials of life. We cannot judge Peter but we should learn from his mistakes so we can protect our faith better and not fall easily.
On the outside, Peter seems strong and confident, having proclaimed that he will follow Jesus all the way. On the other hand, Jesus seems weak as we know He cried and asked God to help. But in the face of adversity and persecution, the one who can still stand is Jesus. Only with God’s strength and true courage, then we can face all things in our life.
Jesus answered the pharisees (Luke 22:66-71) with wisdom. His answers really showed that He knew what the truth of the matter is because He had God’s strength and wisdom. He did not behave as if He committed a crime or is guilty, but with the quiet humility and confidence of God. This is how we should walk. Humble but with the full knowledge of the truth because we received it from God through His grace.
This really revealed to my eyes how important it is that our faith in God must be true and not flimsy. We must trust God and not our own strength. When we think we are strong, we should check our hearts if this comes from God or ourselves. And we must remain spiritually alert and heightened all our days to ward off satan’s attacks. Satan seeks to lie, kill, and destroy. This is what we must be alert for.
