Day 10: If the World Hates You, It Hated Me First

On 7 March 2020, YEF members continue to meditate on John, finishing chapter 15 and starting on chapter 16.

18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.

19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.

One member shared “Those who have faith in Jesus do not belong to this world. This world is fallen and has great sin. How the world acts and thinks will be different from Jesus. Those who really follow Jesus will not receive a lot of praises and many will laugh and misunderstand. In John 8, we are shown how the Pharisees kept trying to persecute Jesus. And just as Jesus faced persecution, we too will face persecution. The world tends to value certain things. Things that will only last in this temporary world and they persecute others for not wanting to pursue them. However, we must know that the path with Jesus is not going to be easy. This is what it takes to be a disciple of Jesus. God will be with us all the way throughout and we know that He will be there with us. “
